It has been a fascinating week. I am, after a six year hiatus, a school teacher. I am truly enjoying my students. They are a motley bunch - which makes them quite interesting and pleasantly challenging. My respect for them is increasing as I watch them rise to a new level of academic rigor. They seem to be gaining a new respect for themselves as well. I am hopeful that as leaders and educators we can develop a program that will reward their hard work...but much remains to be done, and I am not yet confident that a there is a purposeful plan in place. Starting any new thing requires great commitment, many uncomfortable changes and wise leadership. We may be missing the wise leadership. The kids are ready, the teachers are ready...where are the leaders? I'll keep you posted. Root for the home team.

Transient-entalism
All my friends are moving away. I am discovering that Durango is a difficult place to live, financially. A handful of friends I have made this year are leaving the area in order to buy a house, or earn a higher wage. I just left many wonderful friends in CA, so I am a little sensitive about my friends disappearing. And to add to the dilemma, I will be working this year, which leaves less time to build relationships. Hmmm...
