The Leadership Has Left the Dock - Will it Return?
1. My principal resigned. She wrote a two line email to the entire district, dropped her keys on the desk and without a word to the teachers she works with everyday, skeedattled out the door. I hope it slapped her on the fanny.
2. The principal at the large high school came over to say she would take more direct leadership of our school. She came prepared with an immediate plan to help us deal with the rest of the year and a long range plan for the years to come. She brought with her a team of competent people.
3. On Saturday, I ran a successful cheerleading clinic for first through eighth graders. We raised over a grand and the events of the day were well organized. My cheerleaders' parents were organized and administrated the clinic, I prepared the girls and kept the schdule moving forward. A well executed team effort.
4. Piper asked me, "What do I need to do to become the cheerleading captain?" This is an on-going conversation as she can't quite absorb it all in one sitting.
5. The cheerleaders have been asked by the school to take on the pep assembly reponsibilities. And while I roll my eyes at the added responsibility, the offer is a symbolic one. Two years ago the cheerleaders could not have handled such a job - and most certainly would not have been asked to take it on. The girls recognize this as an honor and are excited. Sigh.
6. Chip is always asking questions about leadership in his own life.
7. I am reading Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather. So far it is excellent and I am expecting it to speak to the leadership issue.
8. The two movies I watched this week (Astronaut Farmer and Evan Almighty) oddly shared thematic similarities. Two men doing strange things for which they were mocked - they only varied in their level of enthusiasm about their given projects.
Ponder and Mull. I welcome your comments.
